Mrs. Upchurch was a member of Pine Crest Baptist Church and retired from Nell's Bar-B- Que and Mama's Home Cooking.Survivors include son, Terry and Caye Upchurch of Stockbridge; daughter, Milly and Billy Mabros of Stockbridge; 11 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren. Mrs. Upchurch was preceded in death by her son, Joseph Thomas Upchurch. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, April 21, 2002, at Cannon-Cleveland Chapel. Mr. Alvin Franklin "Buck" Waddell, age 90, of Atlanta, Georgia, formerly of the Rockmart-Yorkville area, passed away on Monday, September 19, 2005. Born on November 1, 1914 in Haralson County, Georgia, he was the son of the late Charlie and Effie Gober Waddell. He was a Veteran of the U.S. Army, having served in World War II, a retired City of Atlanta employee, having worked with airport maintenance for many years and member of the Yorkville Baptist Church.

He was preceded in death by four brothers, Richard Waddell, Columbus Waddell, Sr., Albert Waddell and Stanley Waddell; one grandson, Robert W. Keith, Jr.

Surviving are his wife, Bennie Mae Gore Waddell to whom he was married July 26, 1963; a daughter and son-in-law, Jean and Robert Keith of the Netherlands; two sisters, Mrs. Elizabeth Danser of Norfolk, Virginia and Mrs. Effie Duncan of Concord, California; a grandson, Brad Keith and his wife, Christina of Valrico, Florida; 4 great-grandchildren, Ian, Jeremy, Lauren and Morgan.

Funeral Services were held on Thursday, September 22, 2005 at 2 p.m. in the Chapel of Freeman Harris Funeral Home with Dr. Ted Boland officiating. The eulogy was provided by Mr. Brad Keith.

Interment followed in the family lot of Yorkville Cemetery.

Freeman Harris Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

General Notes: Leon Goosby was killed by two brothers named King in a fight over his wife. One of them hit him on the back of the head with a pole used for a wagon brake. Both men were tried for the murder but were not found guilty. The King men claimed that they were dancing on a bridge over a creek and that Leon fell off the bridge and broke his neck. They were tried in the Buchanan, Georgia court. James Thomas Waddell remembers going to the trial. Leon was raised by his grandma, Mary Frances Reeves Waddell after his mother died. ¹⁵

Louise Caudle Beck, 91, of Autumn Care of Drexel, NC, formerly of Conley Road, died Friday, December 16, 2005 at Grace Hospital following a period of declining health. Born in Wake County on June 11, 1914, she was a daughter of the late Thomas Jefferson Caudle and Emma Rebecca Hale Caudle. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Henry Odell Beck; a daughter, Annette Beck; granddaughter, Jo Louise Darden; five brothers, and four sisters. She was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother who loved to cook and was an avid quilter. She was a member of First Baptist Church.

She is survived by her daughter, Sallie B. Griffin and husband, Herbert, of Drexel; a son, Henry O. Beck, Jr., and wife, Reta, of Greensboro, NC; grandchildren, Henry Darden and wife, Michaela, of Drexel, Ann Pritchard of Valdese, and Adam Beck of Chapel Hill, NC; great-grandchildren, Joshua Darden, Zachary Darden, Jacob Darden, and Sarah Pritchard.

The funeral will be held at 2:00 p.m., Monday, December 19, 2005 in the Colonial Chapel of Sossoman Funeral Home with Rev. Dr. Thomas A. Bland, Jr. officiating. Burial will follow in Burke Memorial Park. The family will receive friends at the funeral home one hour before the service. Memorial contributions may be made to First Baptist Church, P.O. She married Henry Clay Traywick on 5 Sep 1897 Union County NC. This couple and their children may be easily viewed on census records through 1930 at Southpoint Township, Belmont, Gaston County NC. Looking at her death certificate, I see that "Hattie Belk Traywick", resident of 108 Todd Street, south Point, Gaston County NC, born "Dec 23 1880", wife of "Henry Clay Traywick", daughter of "D. Franklin Belk and Sara Roxanna Richardson" died "Nov 11, 1956". She is buried at "Greenwood Cenetery, Belmont NC". I hope this is helpful. Bruce.

Belmont-Mrs. Hattie Belk Traywick, 75, died suddenly at 3 p. m. Sunday at her home, 108 Todd St. She had had a heart condition for some time.
Born in Union County, she was the daughter of the late Franklin and Sarah Richardson Belk. She had lived in Belmont 55 years and was the widow of Henry Clay Traywick who died in 1946.
Surviving are four sons, Paul of Black Mountain, Talmadge of Charleston, S. C., James of Umitallo, Fla., and Henry of Belmont; two daughters, Mrs. Harry E. Moore and Mrs. Milton Knode, both of Hagerstown, Md.; three brothers, W. A. Belk of China Grove, J. B. Belk and F. L. Belk, both of Charlotte; four sisters, Mrs. Margaret Caldwell, Mrs. Mary B.
